# Glossary

> Key terms used throughout SoftISP

| Term                             | Definition                                                                             |

| **Agent / Reseller**             | A third party who sells ISP services on your behalf and manages a group of customers   |
| **Profile / Package**            | An internet service plan with defined speeds, pricing, and validity                    |
| **FUP (Fair Usage Policy)**      | A rule that throttles a customer's speed after their data allowance is exceeded        |
| **Voucher**                      | A pre-paid access code that grants temporary internet access                           |
| **Splash Page / Captive Portal** | A web page shown to hotspot users before they authenticate                             |
| **Session**                      | A single internet connection event — from login to logout                              |
| **Collection Account**           | A mobile money or payment gateway account that collects customer payments              |
| **Chart of Accounts**            | The full list of financial accounts used in double-entry bookkeeping                   |
| **JWT**                          | JSON Web Token — the secure token used to authenticate your login session              |
| **RBAC**                         | Role-Based Access Control — a system where permissions are grouped into roles          |
| **MAC Address**                  | A hardware identifier for a network device, used in access control                     |
| **MikroTik**                     | A popular router brand widely used in ISP deployments; SoftISP integrates with its API |
| **PPPoE**                        | A protocol used for authenticating broadband internet connections                      |
| **DHCP**                         | A protocol that automatically assigns IP addresses to network devices                  |
